Munzler’s Vienna Lager – The Olde Mecklenburg Brewing Company – Charlotte, NC

Vienna Lagers have always been one of my favourite spring/summer time beers and thankfully this particular one from Olde Mecklenburg is one to remember. The aroma is pretty typical for this type of beer with that malty smell right out front, but you also get some nice bread aromas towards in there too. As for the taste on this one you certainly get that breadiness coming through, as well as the malt, but you also get this slight caramel flavour to the back end. It’s this caramel that got me on this one as it adds an interesting light sweetness to this beverage that I enjoyed. With that we come to the finish which was thankfully quite nice, smooth and lasting though sadly not as long as I’d hoped. Though thankfully this beer goes amazingly with food especially when well chilled. I personally had this with a wonderful bratwurst, but I can see this going just as well with any grilled foods from burgers to chicken. Overall this is a wonderful seasonal beer with a whole lot to offer and one which I would certainly recommend to others.

TLDR Notes:

Smell - Bread, Malt

Taste - Bread, Malt, Sweet, Caramel

Finish - Smooth, Medium length

Cost - $7.00 at the brewery
