One of the things I’ve enjoyed about Southwark Brewing Company is there ever changing list of seasonal and special beer, and this spring pale ale was a good addition to that list. Right off the bat, when you get a good whiff, you immediately get strong citrus aromas that are by far the dominant theme in this beer. Along with that you also get some interesting lemongrass notes, it’s quite light though. Moving onto the flavour you get brought right back to that citrus from earlier, but this time it comes out more as orange peel. You also get this really nice taste of toffee with a very bready undertone to the whole thing. This beer also has a pretty long finish to it with a light bitterness that cuts through. As for food pairings, sadly I’ve never had this with anything, but I can easily see this going great with something spicy. Perhaps a nice spicy noodle dish, curry, or even a great hot bowl of chili would go nicely. In the end I very much enjoyed this seasonal brew and if you see it on tap at Southwark I’d definitely say to give it a try.
TLDR Notes: Smell - Citrus, Lemon Grass Taste - Orange Peel, Toffee, Bready Finish - Long, light Bitter Cost - £5.00 a Pint If you’d like to know more you can check out their site here: Southwark Brewing Company
