Being a fan of hops I’ve always enjoyed a good IPA and tend to be a bit happier when I see a double IPA on the menu. So, when I was visiting Old Street Brewery I was very pleased to see one on their tap list and just had to give it a go. And right from the start with this beer you get some great aromas, with the first one that really hits you being malt. Along with it though you also get an interesting pine smell as well as a hint of orange. Once you move to the taste that hint of orange comes through much stronger as the dominant flavour of orange peel. There is also some great notes of pine as well as that malt from before coming back, though this time more subtle. As for the finish, it was sadly a bit short, but had a lovely warming sensation to it thanks to it’s higher alcohol content (8.2%). Moving onto food, I unfortunately didn’t have the chance to try this with anything though I can safely say it would go with a lot. It seemed pretty versitalle to me and I could easily see this going nicely with anything from a Cuban sandwich to some spicy chicken wings. All in all it was a delicious beer and one I’d definitely recommend to anyone passing by their brewery and taproom.
TLDR Notes: Smell - Malt, Pine, Orange Taste - Orange Peel, Toast, Malt Finish - Short, Warming Cost - £3.80 at the Bar If you’d like to know more you can check out their site here: Old Street Brewery
