2016 Viognier – Hanover Park Vineyard – Yadkinville, NC

2016 Viognier – Hanover Park Vineyard – Yadkinville, NC

After living in Virginia for a while I gained quite the taste for viognier, you seem to find it almost everywhere in that state. So, now being in North Carolina I’ve been very interested to see how the viognier here compares and I’d say Hanover Park was a good start in that regard. Right when you pour yourself a glass of this wine you’re hit with some pretty great aromas of apricot as well as a floral note that seemed like honeysuckle to me. As for the taste, you of course get that apricot again but you also get some hints of apple. There’s also an interesting butteriness to it all which I found came through in the back end, I thought it brought things together quite nicely. After that you get this nice dry and pretty decent length finish, though I’ll admit I wish the flavours would have lingered a bit longer. Moving onto food pairings, I personally had this bottle with some great orange chicken and fried rice which went pretty darn well together. I could easily see this going just as well though with some grilled chicken, seared tilapia or even some steamed crab. I’d say Hanover Park did a pretty good job here as this is a tasty and versatile wine that I could see myself enjoying again pretty easily, certainly one to remember.

TLDR Notes: Smell - Apricot, Honeysuckle Taste - Apricot, Apple, Butter Finish - Medium Finish, Dry Cost - $19.00 For a bottle If you’d like to know more you can check out their site here: Hanover Park Vineyard
