I tend to associate rose wines with sitting out on a porch on a warm day enjoying a glass sip by sip. And Thankfully when I was in Prague I found exactly that at Villa Richter with their Terrace bistro and late harvest merlot rose. Right when you get a good whiff of this wine you’re hit with these wonderful fruity aromas, some I couldn’t quite make out but certainly the most dominant being raspberry. And that fruitiness follows through into the flavor, this time though that raspberry is accompanied by a light taste of cranberry. Along with that you also get this very light syrup flavour, not overly sweet nor thick, just the flavour itself perhaps due to the late harvest nature. As for the finish, it was sadly quite short, but certainly pleasing with a good acidity to it. This acidity lends itself nicely to food pairings, which sadly I didn’t have with this glass. That being said though I can easily see this going very well with anything from a curry to some delicious grilled lobster. In the end this was the perfect wine for sipping on a hot day, looking out at the city of Prague, and one I’d definitely suggest if you find yourself in the area.
