Sanders Ridge was an interesting find for us here recently as they are a lovely small organic farm and winery with a beautiful tasting room nestled in the woods. So, with all that, I was very much looking forward to trying their wines and thankfully this estate grown Merlot did not disappoint. The aromas on this wine are wonderful with black cherry coming out right in front with more subtle hints of currant and oak on the back end. These came together well after the first sip where immediately you taste that cherry coming through from the smell, but this time it’s joined by some noticeable flavours of plum and chocolate. All this led to a nice long finish that had me delighted, I always like a good wine to linger. To add onto that it was a nice dry wine, but thankfully not overbearingly dry, making it a good wine to pair with a variety of foods. Which on that note, I had this with a lovely selection of gourmet hot dogs the winery was serving for the 4th of July and it went perfectly. This wine though would very easily go with near anything from a grilled steak to lamb or even a nice meatloaf (which I now crave). Overall this was a great bottle of wine that I would certainly buy again and would suggest to anyone to pick up for themselves.
TLDR Notes: Smell - Black Cherry, Oak, Currant Taste - Black Cherry, Plum, Chocolate Finish - Long Finish, Dry Cost - $22.00 For a bottle If you’d like to know more you can check out their site here: Sanders Ridge Winery
