2008 Vignoles – Nashoba Winery – Bolton, MA

This is an old review I wrote for another site

This was an intriguing white wine that is quite nice and was also my first wine from the Commonwealth of Massachusetts, and apparently was this winery’s first estate wine. Vignoles as a varietal wine can generally be hit or miss for me as it can be everything from overly sweet to massively dry. This one though was at that nice middle point that I enjoy. When you open up a bottle of this wine you are immediately hit by an interesting aroma of citrus and tropical flowers. You soon begin to get a bit of a hint of pineapple thrown into the mix after another good whiff of smell. These carry over into the taste quite nicely, especially the pineapple, but you also get some other fruit I can’t quite make out. Best of all though, you get a really crisp long finish to this wine - that I always enjoy - that tastes a bit of apple that just doesn’t want to leave your taste buds. Overall this is a really nice and crisp fruity wine, though not overwhelmingly fruity. It has a good acid balance so it goes great with foods, or on its own, and for me I think spicy foods are the way to go here (I had this with some nice curry and homemade flatbread). This is a wine worth a good try and one which I think a lot of you may enjoy if you are fans of wines like Pinot Grigio, Riesling or even Vidal Blanc. So give it a try, what do you have to lose?
