2007 Engagement – Mountfair Vineyards – Mountfair, VA

This is an old review I wrote for another site

Mountfair is quite the new comer to the Virginia wine industry but one which is definitely holding its own in the area. This red is an interesting mix of a few varietals and has a beautiful deep red colour to it (almost a blood red really). You also get a really interesting smell to it once you get your nose right in there with some hints of black cherry. After taking another whiff or two you also start to get a bit of an oaky aroma to the wine which is subtle but very appealing. Once you move into the taste you find an interesting combination of fruit which I can't quite identify (odds are though at least that cherry flavour came through). You also get an interesting vanilla undertone with a hint of oak in the taste as well. Best of all, it has a pretty decent finish that lasts for a little bit, though I would have preferred it to last a bit longer. All in all, it’s a delicious red that I think would go well with any sort of grilled meat, especially poultry, and may even go decently with a quiche. This is a very smooth, easy drinking wine and one which I think you'd love if you're a fan of Merlot, Cabernet Franc or even a lighter Pinotage. So, go on and give it a try if you have the chance.
