2006 Estate Seyval Blanc – Snow Farm Vineyards – South Hero, VT

This is an old review I wrote for another site

I was quite excited when I got this wine as I have never had any wines from Vermont before, so this was a real treat. And thankfully my first experience with wines from Vermont wasn’t spoiled by this wine, quite the opposite, as it actually had me craving for more from this region. This Estate Seyval Blanc opens up with an absolutely beautiful aroma of what I believe to be grapefruit. You also get a quite lovely subtle hint of oak as well as maybe a bit of lemon (not entirely sure on that last one really). Once you have sufficiently taken in the smell and take your first sip you immediately notice that grapefruit smell coming in full force right off the bat. You also get a few less identifiable fruit flavours, a bit of oak and maybe even a hint of herbs in this wine. All this culminates in a very well rounded, crisp wine with great balance that makes it extremely versatile. As for food pairings, I had this with some spicy Thai food and it worked quite wonderfully. I also think that it would go well some sort of pork dish, though I have yet to test this out myself. In the end if you are a fan Chenin Blanc or of Chardonnay’s then I am fairly certain that you will enjoy this wine, and it’s got a great price so how can you pass it up?
